I'd like to get rid of the power-robbing, fixed 6-blade fan in my '65 289 three-core radiator setup. I've got a stock replacement alternator and my headlights dim at idle. I don't believe I can afford the switch over to an electric cooling fan IF I also have to replace the alternator. I don't have a high-powered stereo. If the switch to electric is not doable at this time, I'd still like to do something about the stock fan. I was very surprised how heavy the stock fan is. It must take quite a bit of power to move it. Can I add a clutch to the stock fan? Would I just need a clutch and a different spacer, or would the fan itself have to be replaced? Does anyone have experience with Perma-Cool flex fans? deadhead

Hot Rod Air makes a perfect fit cooling fan for your car (250$) when you are ready. It is very slim, silent and SUPER efficient. It does draw 12 amps though !http://www.hotrodair.com/pg19a.cfm
