I changed the gear from a 17 to an 18 and now the speedo is only half as bad as the error was. The #19 has a shorter 'spindle' that the square cable goes into so I did not try it. What do I do now? Dave------------------ '70 ragtop Stang 351W - 13.70 @104.

Check to make sure it has the same angle on the teeth. Right hand or left hand, I've taken long ones and cut the end down to make short ones, if the c-clip works and holds it in place try it. Mike

The original I took out is long! What do I do with a short one? Dave

I've interchanged them both ways. It might not be the best idea, but it does work short term. Seems I change transmission types or rearend gears so often I don't get a long term test

But the square drive seems to be too long to fit in the short gear, do I cut it down? Dave

stang106 are you saying that your speed-o-cable is long at the end that goes into the speed-o gear? I don't suggest cutting the cable-it unravels and it won't be good.I did that before. I had a gear that was too short,so I cut the end off of the gear,(it opened it), so that the cable actually extended past the gear, and then the c=clip went in place-it worked. I am not suggesting you do this, it was on my 67. In the 66 my speedometer is off by 10MPH at 70MPH,(it reads 70 and you are only going 60) I was hoping you would have success changing gears, so I would try it too.

Katherine, Nice to see another RN as a Mustang enthusiest! I will think about cutting the end off the gear, I have a few other places to look at their gears and will try to find another long one. Its a pain in the butt to have the speedo out on the highway. Dave------------------ '70 ragtop Stang 351W - 13.70 @104.
