Well, we took our '73 Mach in to the tranny shop to have the 4 speed rebuilt (grinding, popping out of gear and leaking like a sieve) and what I found out from the shop owner just makes me shake my head in wonder. It seems the tranny (now a T-10) is coded out of a '67 and some of the parts are no longer available!! Why the heck would someone pull the original toploader and install an old T-10?? Then to top it off the Hurst shifter is junk because some of the shims were removed. AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I took it to the tranny shop because of a lack of time and now I'm glad I did.------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

A previous owner likely wanted the toploader for use in another vehicle, or for the higher resale value compared to the T10. Too bad for you though! ------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed

Within every black cloud is a silver lining. You now have the perfect opportunity to slip a T5 in there.

Don't I know it!!! That is why I love my '71, I am the second owner and personally know the origianl owner. He has filled me in as to what exactly the car had done to it from day 1. As for the '73, who the heck knows how many owners there have been over the years. I am the 4th in 5 years that I know of. Geez, any wonder!!!! As for a 5 or 6 speed, if I had known ahead of time what I was up against (the tranny shop never did call me with the problems until after it was completed) I would definately have given that some serious thought. At the very least I would have dropped a '73 toploader back in. Oh well, live and learn!! ------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730
