Was tinted glass an option on 71-73 convertibles, or standard? the glass from my 73 does not appear to be tinted, but in calling around i heven't been able to find anyone with clear glass. Would the tinting be so light that i couldn't tell?

I think tinted glass was an option on most models. I don't think it was an option on the Mach 1. My Mach 1 had clear glass and I replaced it with an aftermarket tinted window. It is noticeable, but not overly so.

I'm looking at the '71 Facts Book (and will assume the '73 is the same) and according to the equipment chart tinted glass was only standard on the sportsroof models (standard, boss and mach).

Yes, it was an option. My '72 has it, so did my '73.

It's light, but noticable.

Glass problem solved: I scored a whole set of tinted glass (minus windshield) on ebay. GREAT price!

The clear glass was standard on all models 71-3. Only the sportsroof rear window was tinted standard.

Tint was a mandatory option when you opted for A/C. It was also available as a stand-alone option on any car, just check off that option box when ordering.

I highly recommend this book:

Iy is definitely the most comprehensive book out there on our classic Mustangs. No 'stang owner or prospective owner should be without it. It has tons of info on options, option packages, powertrains etc.

Hmmmmm, My car came with A/C, yet it doesn't have tinted windows. Must be something else they ran out of in 73, like the comfortweave seats it was supposed to come with, but didn't. (built late may, 1973) I'll be getting that book, by the way. thanks.

Yeah, that's how our cars were made. Move 'em out! If they were short on something, a comparable part was substituted. I've had 2 72 Grande' models that had the variable ratio box, but no mention of competition suspension or any other components.
