I have decided not to try and resto my original build sheets (they are very fragile and would probably not survive an attempt to clean them up). However, I can read all the lettering that is on my originals so I plan to copy all the characters onto a photocopy and then carefully place them on my new (old) build sheet. The originals will remain safely stored at castle Pretentious. I purchased a couple copies of the repop build sheets from Scott Drake and they look very good (btw: there are several obvious differences between the '69 and the '70 build sheets so buy the correct one for your car).

My only question now is what type size and font are the letters on my original? I have had one individual recommend I find an IBM Selectric typewriter because there is supposedly a size/font very close to what I need. Anyone done this before?

I also used an IBM selectric to make 'new' build sheets for my Mustangs. They are very close, but not perfect. It seems that the 'computer' that Ford used to type in these build sheets could not seem to keep all the characters lined up and even. Every few letters, one will be off by 1/2 level up or down.
It's very frustrating, but persevere!...You can do it!

The letters measure approx 3/16" tall. I will convert that to point size today.

Daisy wheel typewriters produce that uneven lettering.

After much scrutiny and a lot of testing, the type size looks like it might be 16 pt and the font that most nearly resemblies that on the build sheet is Letter Gothic MT (there are some subtle differences but chances are they probably wouldnt be noticed unless the original and reproduced build sheets were side-by-side).

Now I need to transribe the letters from our original to a copy of the repop build sheet. Then locate a typewriter and a ball. I will keep you all posted on my progress and post the result on our website. :-)
