My son just bought a 66 coupe 289 3 speed on the floor . It has a hard time shifting and the shifter slops all over the place. I pulled the boot and in looks as if someone has moved the whole shifter to the rear. The shifter is siting about 2 inchs to the rear of the hole. The metal is bent from trying to get it into 1 and 3. The rubber bushing are also gone but I found a new set in the glove box. Is there two different blot paterns to bolt the shifter to the trans. The shifter is the type bolted to the side of the trans. Any ideas. Thanks Scott

Welcome to M&M Scott ! All Mustang manual transmissions have the shifter assembly mounted to the extention housing in the rear, not the case. Is your mounted towards the front as some extension housings have dual mounting pads. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator/ non 65-66 Mustang owner sensitivity co-ordinator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Part time secret agent license #0089 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl

I check it out and the trans has only one set of mountaing holes for the shifter. I found some casting # on the side of the trans C8AR7006C I have been told this is maybe a 1968 trans out of a different (non mustang) car. Now what, any ideas guys? Thanks Scott

I have an original 3 speed tranny from a '66 stang if you're interested. I was saving it in case we ever wanted to return the car to original bu since it has a welded in cage and runs 10s in the 1/4 mile it's probably a pipe dream. E-mail me if you're interested, [email protected]SteveW
