Just back from holiday and couldn't wait to get my hands dirty again.
A buddy of mine here has a mustang junkyard in his backyard and it is mustang part's heaven (European mustangs where usually imported for wealthier people so they are loaded with all kinds of options).
Anyway, he is willing to give up an original 67 tach gauge that I would like to install on my car (presently have Oil & Alt gauges)and toss that ugly summit tach !. So I took a closer look at the alternator wiring situation and it is puzzling ! Both wires (Red & Yellow) are connected tho the battery side of the relay so the alt gauge is shunted. According to the big blue book, you only connect this gauge when testing your charging situation, and to do that, you just pull the shunt wire & one of the gauge leads (they were factory wired together on the same connector) off the relay (bat side) and your alt gauge will operate.

I haven't tried yet but this seems really odd. Anyone ever looked into this ?

Alex, just to make sure that I got this right: you are saying that my set-up is correct and that I should leave it that way unless I temporarely want to check charging ?
Is there any problem to leave the ammeter running at all time (that is the shunt+gauge wire disconnected from the relay) ?
