hey, i was wondering if any of you have ever put a 351w in a 64.5 mustang. Currently, there is a 302 in it and is due for a rebuild, instead though, we are buying a rebuilt 1969 351w from a parts store for $1000. It is a long block and i was wondering what can be used from the 302 to finish the conversion. Was wondering about items such as fuel pump, starter, motor mounts, front brackets, water pump, intake, valve covers, oil pan, and whether it would mount up to the c4 tranny. Also, i've heard that the deck height is about 2 inches higher than 302's. Is there any clearance problems that should be addressed? Is it possible to fit headers also? If i left any important issues out, please feel free to comment. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. thanx

It will fit. You will need another intake manifold and some high dollar Hooker 6208 headers. The fuel pump, motor mounts, timing cover, pulleys, and most accesories will all transfer. The heads will bolt up, but you will need to drill the holes out slightly to accomodate the 1/2 inch head bolts the 351 has. $1000 sounds like a lot of money for a stock 351W rebuilt short block by the way. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator/ non 65-66 Mustang owner sensitivity co-ordinator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Part time secret agent license #0089 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl

I had a buddy that put a 351W in a 64.5 and he had clearance problems with the valve covers hitting the shock tower when he got on it. Of course this has been awhile back so I dont remeber all the details.

thanx for the advice, the engine is a long block, not a short block. heads are there. was it 69 or 70 for the desirable heads: i.e. high compression, large valves?
