Need to know the correct codes for engine and trans for a 1970 Mustang with a 4spd and supposedly a 428CJ. I know 1 engine code is "R" adn another is "S", "corect me if I'm wrong about the codes. This car may be obtainable a a decent price if the codes are correct. I know the original motor "supposedly" blew up drag racing but who know what story this guy could be telling me. I have to get some more info on the car. Such as data plate and rear end tags to check for right gear and such. Car is pretty straight body wise but is in need of minor surface rust repair adn a paint job. Thanks ahead of time for your help>------------------ 67 Mustang F/B 347ci roller motor 4 speed. Tom, There are two 428CJ codes listed for 1970. The first one is a "Q" Code and the second is the "R" Code. The "Q" code is for Non Ram Air and the "R" code is for Ram Air. The body code for a Mach 1 is "05". The vin for the fastback should read something like this: 0F05R. There should be a tranny code of 5 or 6. If you need casting numbers to verify the block, heads or manifold just ask. Good luck. The car looks like it has a shaker hood scoop but is covered by some plastic. THis car should be in a garage before it starts to deteriate anymore. Thanks for the code information. If I didn't mention it in my first post that the engine is now a cleveland but he "says" he has a CJ and another trans to go along with it. I am gonna have to research this car alot more before buying or even asking the "wife about it". I can hear it now. "What do you need another one for? Your never satisfied with the car you have now."------------------ 67 Mustang F/B 347ci roller motor 4 speed. Body shop project soon.
