I'm looking at a '70 Mach 1 that is for sale. It is an H-code car with the 351 2-barrel. It has a shaker hood. Is it possible that it came with the shaker originally since it is only a 2-barrel? Is there any way to tell on the data tag if it came with the shaker? ------------------ JT '68 Coupe w/351W '01 Bullitt #3357, Dark Highland Green

Only the 428 cars had a different VIN # for the engine with RamAir (Q for no ramair, R for ramair). I have had 70 351 Mustangs with Shakers, & the sheet metal base for the shaker has 2 different holes for the front stud, stamped 2V & 4V. Also the 2 holes for the side mounted studs are slotted, to allow for either posistion. I must admit, it seems odd that someone would order a Shaker, & not get the 4 barrel engine, but then I also thought it was odd that someone would order a 340 Duster or 400 GTO, & get a 3 speed manual trans, when a 4 speed would only be about $200. extra. But I have seen both.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed

I've got a 1970 351-2V WINDSOR Mach 1 (which came with a single exhaust), and it's got a factory shaker. People ordered these cars every which way you can imagine, and personal wants and tastes could sometimes really defy logic. That '70 Windsor shaker had it's own unique base and snorkel for that year only (not shared with '69 Windsor), talk about a hard part to find if you were looking for it! By the way, my Dad special ordered a brand new 1967 400 H.O. GTO with a 3-speed manual (had it for two years, then it was stolen and stripped). Back then you've gotta realize that the 4-speed was fairly new on the scene, and alot of people were perfectly accustomed with 3-speeds and had no desire for another gear slipped in there. No different than all the people who say "what the hell does anybody need with a 6-speed, a 5-speed is all you need" today. I've got an H.O. 400 4-speed '67 goat today, and quite honestly, it's got so much meaty usable torque that I find myself 1,3,4 shifting it more times than not. It pulls 3rd off of 1st like a tractor, and I save the extra rowing. That car pulls like an SCJ drag pack, but I doubt anyone wants to hear that here .

Thanks for the relpies. I had looked in several books that I have, but none really said anything about the Shakers' availability, except fo the 428 cars. I was curious because I heard that Mach 1's with both factory A/C and Shakers were somewhat rare. I'll think I'll head out in a little while and see if I can test drive it.
