I am performing a 6 to 8cyl conversion, Is the wiring harness from a 6cyl the same as an 8 cyl car?

What is the best way to clean a wiring harness? And is there a best tape to use when retapeing spots? or just good 3m electrical tape.

The harness under the dash is the same,as is firewall to headlamp harness, acccording to catalog. Guage, alternator harnesses are different. Have actually soaked a harness in hot water with detergent and let it soak. Lacqauer thinner is great for cleaning wires. Lkie to retape with 3M electrical tape. doing a little at a time, checking for breaks, cuts, weak insultion, etc, slowly retaping the entire harness. I had a problem on my 68 that went unresolved for years before I bought it. On the ground inspection got me on line to get a replacement.
