I have a leaking heater core so I removed the two heater hoses [inlet & outlet] from the engine on my 289 and installed a short jumper line... Now I want to remove the jumper and just cap off the inlet and outlet holes in the engine. Can I do this or does the fluid have to circulate through the block? Thanks

True. I have done the same core bypass and leaned out the choke just a touch. The choke is thermal, so just the heat in the motor will open it eventually

You can plug off the heater hoses close to the pump or simply remove the hose nipples and tap in an appropriately-sized freeze plug with alittle silicone sealer on it. In fact, you may be able to locate an rubber expandable plug to fit. Both are available at most neighborhood parts stores. The elbow bypass hose located at the top of your water pump to your intake manifold will allow the coolant to circulate just fine.....

And while the hose ran alongside the carb on the earlys, there were some early Stangs that were heater delete from the factory. Those cars simply had proper adjustment.
