Would it mess up anything if I cut the stock engine gauges section of harness off (oil pressure, water temp, charge)? I have aftermarket gauges, ignition and fresh wire running from a homemade switch box. This part of the stock wiring harness is just old, ugly and in the way. The section I'd like to eliminate runs out of the harness that plugs into the center of firewall (66 Mustang). Anyone have knowledge of this circuit? Thanks.

Can't you just unplug it?------------------

There could be a little plug under there. I'll unwrap it and take a look.

It has your coil power, heater fan, and starter solinoid too. If you want to know what color goes where let me know. You may want to save it though, and use it to run your water temp and oil pres gauges. If you have stock gauges already just disconnect the stock gauge and use the same connector to hook it up to your new gauge. If you have warning lights you can either cut the center wire that connects to the light plug, or solder a wire to the end which is nice if you ever want to undo what you've done. red w/ white strip is water, white w/ red strip is oil

I checked and there's no plug for the gauges branch. It's the 3 foot length of wires that branches off the main harness, over the intake manifold about 1 foot from the main firewall plug. I'm gonna go ahead and get rid of it.

Really? That's odd, but I don't work on the early Mustangs. You might want to leave usable stubs in case you change your mind and want to have them some time in the future. I'd save the cut-offs, too, even if only to have them to compare to at a future date. ------------------
