How much does a fold-down rear seat for a 66 fastback run?
I called the local mustang parts store, but they laughed when I asked if they could get one and had no idea what they cost or would be worth.

Jon D,
Welcome to Mustangsandmore.com. Glad to have you here with us. Your best bet for the rear fold down seat is to check at swap meets, salvage yards, or on-line Mustang parts web sites.

what state do u live in? i have a 66 fastback with blk. int. and i was thinking of replacing the folddown seat with a shelby fiberglass panel that takes the place of the rear seat. the shelby panel is $199.99. maybe we can make some type of deal.

I know this may come as a shock to you, but the metal peices that get carpet, what you see when the seat is folded down, is the same from 66-70. Now, the fiberglass panels and the upholstery are all different, and 66 had only one latch, but like I said, the metal peices that get carpeted, and the chrome peices are pretty much the same too.

I bought the entire interior out of a 70 fastback for my 68 and was able to use the metal peices that get carpet, the trapdoor, and the seats themselves. I paid $400 for everything and sold what I couldn't use for about $50, so $350 net for a complete set-up. DO NOT BUY A FOLDDOWN ON EBAY!!!! It is rediculous, right now there is a 68 trapdoor on there selling at $311 and its just the trapdoor, nothing else.

Take some time, look around, figure out what cars you can source from (if you want more specifics, let me know), and keep your ear to the ground. The rare finds are still out there to be had.

I would say don't pay more than $500 for EVERYTHING ready to install and in nice shape.

Watch out for crappy chrome, a piano hinge that doesn't swing, latches that don't work, etc.
