I nearly have the wiring fixed in my 73 mach, I have a few questions though. A fusible link burned up, and it has a tag on the connector that says "fusible link 16 guage". Is it safe to just solder in a piece of 16 guage wire? Is a certain type of wire required for a fusible link? Can I put a fuseholder and fuse in instead? If, so what size fuse would be equal to a 16 guage wire? Thanks for any help you can provide.------------------ Jason Thompson 1973 Mach 1, Q-code 4 speed 4.30 gears 1989 Mustang LX coupe 2.3 3.45 gears, wants to be a 429

Definitely not a straight 16 gauge wire. The fusable link protects your wiring harness. You can get them from NPD, I believe. ------------------

Jason: A fusible link is available from any parts store. It is a special wire installed in the main power circuits to protect the electrical system of the car, designed to blow in case of a dead short. I'd recommend you get a new one and install it, as a fuse or piece of wire is a crap shoot as to if it will provide any protection. Remember, your wiring harnesses are no longer available from Ford, and they aren't getting any cheaper on eBay either!

If you want to change to a regular fuse, let me know and I'll do some figuring to get the correct size. Can't do the math right now cuz I'm operating on fumes as we speak.

thanks for the responses guys. I wasn't sure if there was actually a fusible wire or if it was the same thing. I looked in the electrical section at auto zone and didn't find anything, i'll have to check around more today.------------------ Jason Thompson 1973 Mach 1, Q-code 4 speed 4.30 gears 1989 Mustang LX coupe 2.3 3.45 gears, wants to be a 429
