Since I picked up this car a couple of weeks ago Iv'e been fixing little stuff here and there. Now comes to gas gauge, gauge reads pegged out past full when key is on. What is the usual cause and cure for this problem?
Thanks

If it's not full The sending unit might be shorted (unhook the wire) or the wire is grounded to the frame. If you unhook the wire at the tank and it goes to empty it's the unit if not it it's the wire. a omm meter will tell you also. you will need to unhook both ends.

Mine reads empty all the time. If I unhook the wire at the tank and ground it to the frame it should read full? Or would the gage on the dash be broken?

I would check the ground, mine reads empty most of the time...but sometimes it works. I've been told to check the ground also ( Just haven't got around to it yet )
