I think this may have been covered before, but you all know I'M SLOW !!!! Is there a particular cable and gear replacement cable for a 70 Mustang that will convert an original 3.00 gear and 14" wheel to 3.55 gears and 15" wheels....or at least something close...without figuring out original tire diameters etc..... Thanks...------------------ EDDIE D Resto Mod '70 Sport Roof Arrest Me Red '02 GT, Torch Red

If you want it accurate, you do need to do the math, sorry. ------------------

OK STEVE....THE MATH ????? Get the original wheel/tire dimensions for the oem 14"ers, compare them to the new wheel/tire dimensions with the 15's...anything else...some algebraic formula for comparing the 3.00's to the 3.55's ???? Or is it just tire dimensions plus compensating for the 3.55's ?? Thank You Teacher.....------------------ EDDIE D Resto Mod '70 Sport Roof Arrest Me Red '02 GT, Torch Red

If you can supply the tire sizes, we can take it from there. ------------------

Well, I looked up a 205/75-14 which is close to the E78-14s they used to use and those are 26.11 " so your tire diameter hasn't changed much. You can even pretty much use the formula on my speedometer gear page: https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/speedogear.html code:
We'll assume you had a 3.00 gear ratio, and you've changed them to a 3.50 ratio.Here's the formula; So, if you had a 3.00 and you now have a 3.50, and you have an 18 tooth driven gear; 3.00 3.50 ----- = ------ 18 X if you cross multiply (18 x 3.50)/3 = 21
So you need a 21 tooth gear.
