My car still has the original buck tag and I was wanting to decode it. Only problem was that it had so much paint on it I couldn't see the numbers. So, I whipped out the trusty paint stripper, cleaned it up and my tag only has 2 codes on it other than the VIN. I don't have the codes in front of me now, but shouldn't there be more than 2 other codes stamped on the tag? Or my worst fear, were the other codes printed on the tag? In which case, I cleaned them off with the stripper

No, they would have been stamped. Was your car a low optioned car?------------------

Low optioned. Here is a buck tage off a "long goner' 157 3 20F 65A VYN2 2G 8T0iCXXXXXX R GREEN MT AC PS VYN 2=black vinyl, 2G= Ivy Gold Int. R= code for highland green,GREEN MT=unknown(not man trans as car was c-4 AC PS obvious What a bummer This was a totally rust free car except for a badly rotted roof. .

Oops. I forgot to post my codes over the weekend. I'm going home for lunch today so I'll post'em when I return from lunch.Steve, as far as I know it was virtually a no option car. There are signs of ac but it must have not been factory installed. That or it just wasn't on the buck tag.

Could have been, but probably not. In 67 and 68, Ford had a dealer add on hang down-the local store has one. Not to say it hasn't been done but it is less likely than the hang down. Cost plus labor would have been a big factor.

Well, I finally got around to posting the codes stamped on my buck tag, about 14 lunches later. Here they are, all two of them:H-2 & B-2 So how do these decode. The info I found had a ? mark out to the side for their meaning. Thanks.

As far as is known the H2 and B2 marks are inspection marks only. You'll have to wait for Kevin Martis new book on Buck tag codes.
