I got across a can of ATF made by Caltex. It says recommended for Allison C-4. Is this the C-4 trans used by Fords?

Did some research on Allison C-4. Turns out this is not a trans but a specification for an oil type. No relation to our C4s Now, I really have a problem. I poured this into my C4 and I'm worried that this is the wrong type. I know I have to use type F but I can't find type F here.

If it's just one quart, I wouldn't worry about it.

I added only half quart. Besides, other fluids specified for Allison C-4 are also recommended for type F. Thanks.

Hi Ed! I could just as easily tell you this over the phone, but what the heh I used the easy-to-find Caltex ATF for more than a year, then decided to give the hard-to-find Pennzoil a try. No difference, as far as I could see. The Caltex stuff is just fine.

Simon, I think I'm just paranoid regarding this type F stuff. Others say that as long as its ATF it will do the job. Thanks.

No, you want type F in your Ford. It's a different viscosity. I'd look some more.
