I have the 120 mph speedo with the trip odometer in my 68. I put in a new speedometer ( 4spd tranny) about 3 years ago, and a week or so ago I noticed what sounds like a bearing whine coming from the speedometer. It is not consistent, ie, it comes and goes, and it does not seem to correspond to any speed that I am driving at.

Anybody have this before? I'm hoping its just the cable needs some lubrication, as the speedo's with trip odometers are hard to come by. If it was just a stock speedo, I'd have no problem swapping it out, shoot!... I forgot about the whole mileage on the odometer issue.

Maybe this is completely different. Sometimes I get a click-click-click sound from the back of my speedo. Soon after, the speedo stops working and I have to get down under, root around in there and reattach the speedo cable. Maybe it's just the attachment on the back -- although that's no "bearing whine" I'm listening to.

When I was working at Kragen Auto we carried graphite lube by Loctite. It comes in a little tube, not an aerosol. Check where they have all the silicon adhesives stuff, I know Loctite makes it, but you may have to ask somebody at the counter. Autozone may have it, but I'm not 100% sure.
