Hey guys, purchased a new cam for my 302.. its the Comp cams xtreme energy series #31-234-3.256.. I have the perf rpm aluminum heads, and was wondering do I have to change the valve springs out when I put this cam in, or can I continue to run the springs that are on there? the old cam is a blue racer #wg-1107.. thanks!

That all sort of depends on the specs of the new cam vs the old cam and how long you've had the present springs on there. Are they heavy duty springs? I almost lost my 302 by going to a more aggressive cam and not installing new valve springs.

I think your springs will be fine with the new cam.

Just be sure to doublecheck them for coil bound height.

In other words when the valve spring is fully compressed on a down stroke, see if you can slip a .020 feeler gauge between the coils of your valve springs. If not try different ones and let us know what will fit between the coils. I still think you'll be fine, but it doesn't hurt to check. Good luck,
