Will the bellhousings from a '72 302 FMX and a '73 351C FMX interchange? Thanks.

Yes, but keep in mind the 351C uses the larger 164 tooth flexplate, and the 302 uses the 157 tooth. You can interchange them {pre-'82} as long as you use the small flexplate with the small bellhousing and vice versa. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC My Photo Page Christmas shopping? Steve, I could be wrong, but I think the large flex plate will bolt onto the 302. The corresponding bellhousing will have to be used too. (Be sure to use the bellhousing that accepts the 164 tooth flex. I don't think you can use the small flex with large bell because the starter will not engage). Since it's an early block, the balance should be okay. ------------------

Remember that MOST post 1968 302's came with 164 tooth flywheels and the larger bell housings so it may not be an issue. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00 & '01 Fleet of FoMoCo products Moneymaker Bio US Class Nationals link

Also, there may be a problem with the starter. The 164 teeth flywheels have the ring gear in a different place than the 157 versions. I think the 164 flexplates are the same as the 157 version (as far as ring gear placement). Also if you run a full size starter and a 157 teeth flywheel or flexplate, the starter may contact the oil pan rail so you may want to roll the pan rail back for clearance or run a smaller starter.Dan Jones

The starter rub issues mentioned above is with 351C's. Not sure if that was clear.Dan Jones
