I got a 69 Mach 1 with no trans or motor. I'm planning on putting in a 390 or 428 but came across a deal on a 67 thru 69 Fairlane,Montego,Ranchero # RUG-C2 toploader. Does anyone know if this will work (shifter location?) I know it is for a 390/428 bellhousing, That isn't the problem. But it's shifter location .As told to me by the owner ,the 2 vertical mounting bolts are 9" rear of where the tailshaft housing bolts to the main trans. housing.Or in other words, it would be 19-1/4" from the face of the trans. It's not on the extreme rear tail of the tailshaft ,like the earilier 65-66 Mustangs.Where should it be on a 69 Mach 1?, Shoe

Yes Shoe, you can make it work. You will need to cobble up the floor some for a new entry hole and get an appropriate shifter handle but it will work as I have done it before. The trans mount will be in the same location. Only the shifter bolts up in the middle of the rear extension housing instead of at the back like a traditional Mustang/Cougar. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00 & '01 Fleet of FoMoCo products Moneymaker Bio US Class Nationals link

Hey, Moneymaker, In order to avoid cutting up the floor because the shifter is probably mounted too far forward on this tailshaft... Could a guy just switch the tailshafts to one that would have the shifter mount location on the rear, like a 65 or 66 Mustang tailshaft? Thanks ,Shoe
