Any suggestions on what kind of headers should I buy for a 72 Mach1 351c-4V 4-speed car? The car is for street use; operating in the 2000 - 6000 rmp range.See the link below to see the headers I have my eyes on. Has anyone tried these yet? http://www.fordpowertrain.com/Headers.htm Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I have the same question except mine is for a 71 351C-4V with C6 auto and PS. I have some killer HPC coated ones but the only problem is that the drivers side header is actually touching my PS gearbox and this cannot be a good thing over the long run

I could not find headers for my 70 Mach 3514v 4spd. Noone made them for a 4spd, we had to buy auto headers and modify them. RAY------------------ RAY . I know the Dynomax headers for a 2bbl 351C in a 72 Mach I fit great... even with power steering and a C6 (a buddy has a car set up like this) They are CHEAP too. I would think the 4bbl headers -should- fit the same...Good Luck! ------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367

That's what brand i have, but I still don't think they make them for a 4spd car. RAY------------------ RAY . Here's the site for the Dynomax header applications. Sorry, no 4-speed fitment. They fit a C6 fine, but no 4-speed. Must be the clutch linkage.http://www.dynomax.com/documents/standard_details.pdf Hooker Super Comps fit... http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLine/Products/ES/ESH/SCCar.html Here's Hedman's listings for Ford. Looks like they fit the 4-speed.... if you have 2bbl heads. http://www.hedman.com/pages/hedmanmain.html The Hookers will have tubes that are MUCH closer to the same length, and will have much less restrictive collectors than those "ball and socket" powertrain units. The "fordpowertrain" headers -might- be easier to fit, although I've always had good luck with supercomp's fitment. WELL, I just looked at the powertrain footnotes... fitment might be a problem. I have looked from every manufacturer for my '73 Mach 351C/4-speed and the only two makers for this application are Hooker Super Comps and also Doug's Headers (out of Anaheim, CA). The problem is they both are in the $520 range, which to me is too much to spend for a street car. I had a much larger selection for my '71 351C/C-6 and wound up with a set of Doug Thorley headers, which are great but haven't had a chance to install yet. On my '73 I have some cheapo headers that are cracked and blown thru and due to the affore mentioned price wound up buying stock manifolds to put back on. As for mods to headers for automatics you are probably looking at more trouble than it's worth to make them work.------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (our daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

To modify the auto headers is a job. We had to cut off the back two tubes and remake our own to get arount the z-bar. Then I had to get the one recoated. RAY------------------ RAY . Tubular Automotive makes a set to fit a 4V with headers. Costs around $300 bare. I had to cut my Z-bar, rotate the end about 5 degrees and reweld to get the linkage to fit. My Z-bar had been modified before from the looks of it however.Sanderson makes a set of "Shorty" headers (FC-4 I think) htat will fit mustangs with the 4-speed linkage, or so they tell me.------------------ Jim Sams '69 mustang Coupe 372C

Good is not cheap and cheap is not good! Headman makes a decent 351C "throw away" header that will fit a 4 speed. They offer both 4v and 2v head ports. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00 & '01 Fleet of FoMoCo products Moneymaker Bio US Class Nationals link

Did they re-introduce the 4V version? They were unavailable 3 years ago. BTW the tubular automotive headers look like an exact copy of the very long headmans. 4 years ago, Perogie had a jet hot coated set of the headmans (New) at a swap meet for $250. I still regret not buying them.

You can go to the hedman site and look up the part numbers, I found the hedders for the 351-4v under the RACE hedder section and then the STREET & STRIP HEDDERS section.http://www.hedman.com/ ------------------ Ronnie 69 mach1 351W-4V 70 Torino GT 351C-4v with a "shaker" Mustangs and More Member #23

I guess I wasn't clear enough when I said they weren't available 3 years ago. I ment a street oriented header. They still make a 2 1/8" primary header listed in Street/strip. This is too large for my uses.
