My friend with his 2000 Mustang GT had exhaust cut outs welded to his stock exhaust, It helped in his 1/4 times and we also were getting on a on ramp for 104 and going into second she broke traction pretty good. Now my Mustang has dual exhaust stock manifolds and dynomax turbo mufflers, I will be putting Tri-Y headers on and cutting my h-pipe down to fit (if possible) Then welding in some exhuast cutouts for when I want to go to the track. Does this sound like a good or bad idea? Thanks.-Jeff 1965 Coupe

Yes and no, by todays standards of mufflers, some cars will run just as quick with mufflers versus open headers. With open headers the motor will have a tendency to run leaner and may require carb enrichment. Tri-Y have a 2 1/2 collector and are very good for low end torque compared to 4 tube. I'm guessing that you will not pick up much with cut out other than a bunch of noise. The choice is yours Mike

My '66 stang has stock heads, 1 5/8" long tube headers, 2 1/4" exhausts, 2 chamber Flomasters, and the uncorked headers made no difference in aceleration and didn't feel near as strong on the low end, but definately LOUDER!!..------------------ '66 Stang with traction problem!! 289 320hp 4 spd 3.50 trac-loc http://www.picturelist.net/Images/dbhard/1966.jpg

No loud ='s FAST! hehe I guess maybe i'd like to have them to just cruise once and awhile with open headers haha. And try out the track with them then with out. One time getting onto an on ramp, (2 lanes) I just took off around the corner up to 60mph (speed limit) and as passing a lady in her car she flipped me off because I scared her, How dumb! And thats with an exhaust. Oh and have you guys seen that comercial where the old guy is yelling at the parked car to slow down "because it looks fast parked" Well i get the "slow down" all the time when going the speed limit! anyone else get this?

Nope just had the trans and rear end rebuilt (3.55's) and put a new speedo gear in the trans, Its right on, I tested it with my dad in his truck, and we always have those things the cops set up on the road showing your speed, and its right on.

Before I installed my Flowmasters I had a cheap set of turbo mufflers on it.. I was racing street brackets one friday at the local track and made it to the final round.. Just as I was shifting into 3rd gear @ 6200 rpms, one of those cheap mufflers blew off (BAROOOOOOM!!)and damn near scared the SH!! out of me and the guy running next to me.. He said he thought I had cut in the nitrous or something.. Scared me so bad that I backed out of it and lost the race... I still laugh when I think about it.. ------------------ '66 Stang with traction problem!! 289 320hp 4 spd 3.50 trac-loc http://www.picturelist.net/Images/dbhard/1966.jpg
