Could someone give me some pointers on changing the shift shaft seal on my C4...I'm pretty much tranny illiterate. Do I remove/replace the seal from the outside or do I need to do it from the inside of the tranny? Is it pretty straight forward? Mine is leaking pretty bad, I bought the seal but just not sure how to get to it.Thanks, Brock

Mine had two seals. One for the kickdown lever, which I was able to dig out from the outside with a pick, and another one for the main gear selector shaft, which I decided I would have to pull the pan and the shaft to get to it. I haven't done this one yet.

You have to drop the pan, then the valve body. Then there's a nut inside the case you remove and the shaft slides out. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC Be American, Drive American!

You must be very careful when reinstalling the valve body and torque the bolts to specs. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00 & '01 Fleet of FoMoCo products Moneymaker Bio US Class Nationals link
