A friend is willing to give me his 260. I am hoping that some parts can be used on a future 289 build-up. What parts are the same for both engines? Thanks.

They have the same stroke, but the 260 has a smaller 3.80" bore. The 289 has a 4.00". 260's have a 5-bolt bellhousing like the earliest (64 to early 65) 289's. The 260 heads have smaller combustion chambers, and I believe smaller valves. I don't remember much else... The cranks and rods -might- be the same. 260's also had totally flat top pistons with no valve reliefs, so be careful with aftermarket cams.

Good Luck!

Sell the 260. It's more valuable to a restorer who needs a 260. You can buy lot's of 289 parts with the proceeds.

Thanks Alex. One small problem, I am far and away from you guys! Wish I could help someone finish his project and get something in return for my project also. Wishful Thinking!
