A friend of mine has a block that he had gotten from another friend that said it was a 429 out of a Mustang. Its only a bare block and the only casting I could find was something like C9V_ B? How can I tell if its a CJ or SCJ block and is there any advantages of using this block over a regular 429 or 460 block? I know that the SCJ and some CJ blocks had 4 bolt main but I forgot to look. Is there a place to find a part number?

Thanks,

Ed

68,
Looks like you may have a 429CJ block. There are two part numbers listed:
C9VY-A and C9VE-B. The SCJ is listed as:
D00E-B.

A C9ve-B block is a 2 bolt main 429 CJ for a 69 or 70 torino.
71 429 mustangs have a casting on the block
as DOVE-A. They were all 4 bolt mains. There is a reverse CJ stamping in the lifter valley
It may have a 460 casting in the front and a reverse 460 casting in the back. Although DOOE-B is listed as a CJ Block, I have yet
to see one. I think it might be an engineering number. Finally a Question I can answer!!!

The block should be just about the same as a regular 429/460 block. I don't think there would be any advantage or disadvantage to useing it. It may have more value than a regular 460 block if someone restoring a 70
torino needed it.
