Someone is telling me that all 70 Mustangs with Holley carbs with a 428 SCJ had manual chokes. Does anybody know if this is true. He said that Ford recalled the few that had automatic chokes and removed them and installed manual chokes. In the parts manual they list automatic chokes. I am trying to find out which is correct for a concourse resto. THANX RAY------------------ RAY . I don`t know about the auto cars, but my "R"code 70 Mach1 4 speed 3.50 geared (non SCJ)Mustang had a manual choke. It had a black knob with a white "C" in it, which was mounted to the right of the steering column at the bottom of the dash. I`ve also heard that the 70 CJ pass side exhaust manifold did not have the holes for the automatic choke tubes in it due to the manual choke, although mine were long gone.

Ray: A co. in New England, Mansfield Mustang, Mansfield, MA. may be able to answer questions. They specialize in big block stuff and repo some pieces. Another co. in Missouri is Semo Mustang and I don't have their location. Then, of course, Perogie.

Thanx everyone for the help. Rory you hit the nail on the head. Pony carbs told me this but this customer wanted a choke put on. Pony carbs refused to do it because he said the carb was worth at least $1,000.00 because it was made without a choke and the right side exhaust manifold has no holes for choke tubes.
