For those of you who saw my earlier post, I had a short that was pulling 1.5 amps from my battery. I was searching for culprit and pulled the fuses and checked the wiring. I then replaced the Alternator, which didn't help. I checked the dash, then I replaced the voltage regulator. This cleared up the 1.5 amp pull, but now I was getting a 'variable' 4 amp draw, 4 amps for 10 seconds, then 0 amps for 4 seconds. It drove me nuts for about a week, until last night. While at a car show last week I bought a new lighter with bezel and decided to put it in last night. I grabbed the old lighter and OUCH it was red hot. Yup, while checking the dash the second time I must have pushed the lighter in and it got stuck. So it was heating up(the 10 second 4 amp pull) then would click to release(the 0 amp pull), then heat up again. Man was I embarrassed. The first problem was the regulator, then while poking around the lighter was bad. Funny how these things turn out. Thank you to Franklin and Steve for the help. Franklin pointed me to the regulator.Harry ------------------ Harry Straub '65 Mustang Coupe http://www.harrystraub.com/resto.html

John, I put an ampmeter in series with the battery. I took the + cable off the battery and put the ampmeter between the cable and the battery post. Harry
