I found that my number 4 in my 72 302 is not firing, I have repaced the cap, rotor, wires spark plugs, alson the dist. is pretty new too. I can unplug all the other wires from the cap and the engine sounds different and you can see a spark from theother wire going to the cap, but number 4 that happens, no spark or sound in engine. Need some please.

If you have compression on #4 I would switch that plug and that wire with a cylinder that is firing. See if you move the problem. If you dont move the problem you have a bad cap. I had a valve that would not open once and the cylinder had compression.

I switched the plug and wire yesterday with the number one and there was no difference, I also got a new cap yesterday too. I did a conpression test about 3 months ago, I geuss I will do another one tonight, because sence then I have put a new intake and carb on, would that have anything to do with it? Thanks for the reply

ok now I would guess a vacuum leak on #4 You still could have good compression, but the leak would change your fuel air mixture.

I am guessing (people in here will set me straight if im wrong) That "IF" your problem is a leak it's not around the carb. If you put about an ounce of gas in a spray bottle and sprayed around number #4 area of the manifold it might pick up that cylinder. Keeping in mind that that one is dead it still might not fire on gas. If may fire on starting fluid. If you use it you need to be very carefull. Use very sparingly and of course you have a 10lb fire ex. handy

Do you mean there still was no fire coming through the wire or the plug? If so it's probably still the cap. A vacuum leak won't stop the plug from firing.
