Can anyone tell me what the 1st gear ratio is on a 1970 C4....and is there a way to increase this ratio in order to get...a steeper rear gear advantage without change the rear ratio.....
In other words getting say 4.00 to 1 rear results out of a 3.55 by upping 1st gear ratio...
Thanks

First gear is 2.47 I believe. You can buy a different planatery set for them, a 2.75 ratio. ATI makes them as does several other manufacturers.

I don't know the first gear ratio but I think it is about 2.5-2.6. I know different gears are available but I think they are expensive. Try these guys:

Art Carr 888-526-5868
Performance Automatic 800-767-8174

I never purchased them so I don't know anything about the quality. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure the ratios are 2.46, 1.46, then 1:1

There is a co.article in M&Fords that featured a c-4 with different 1st and intermediate gears, leaving the final original. Sounds good---particularly if a person doesn't have "gears in the rear"!!!!

Thanks all/....as usual, very informative replies....
Hey Ray.....love the 4 speed...and every once in a while get the urge to go "Stick"..
Then again.....getting too old and uncoordinated for 3 pedals.....hard enough with 2....
I'll check out the sights and co's you all mentioned....
Would love a little more pull in first...but want to keep the 3.55's for cruising..
