This is on a 302 out of a 68 Fairlane that is now sitting in my 66 Coupe. It has two sending units: the bell-shaped one (like I had on the original Mustang engine, and the smaller, screw in unit. Not sure, but figured he did this because he had an idiot light and also installed a gauge.Current problem: I have a newly rebuilt 302 that I've just gotten to run. I have my stock oil pressure gauge connected to the bell-shaped sending unit. When I turn the key to the first stop, the gauge needle goes all the way to high (pegged), then when I start the engine it drops to low (pegged). Don't completely trust the reading I'm getting, but don't see how the gauge could be set up wrong. Any advice or insight? Thanks again- JimO

if he installed an aftermarket gauge then the sending unit probably isn't correct for the gauge, try a new stock sending unit.

sounds like that is the off or on sending unit for a light.

It really does, Lyle. I know the previous owner had a gauge though, and I've tried hooking the wire from the stock gauge to both senders.Tomorrow, I'll either wire the VDO gauge or go get a stock sending unit. Just not comfortable running the new engine without an eye on my oil pressure. thanks- JimO
