RWHP for a "stock" 289.... Huh, just a guess, because the old ratings were flywheel #s, I'll say 130-140 hp at the rear wheels. Any one know for sure?

One question comes to mind real quick. Which stock 289 are you asking about, since there are three different 289s that were available???

289 2-V (C code) 200 hp
289 4-V (A code) 225 hp
HiPo 289 4-V (K code) 271 hp

I will have to dig through some books to find the hp numbers at the rear wheels and the torque specs.

I found some numbers for you. These are from the '65 - '66 289's:

289 2-V "C" code:
200hp @ 4400 rpms; 282lbs-ft torque @ 2400 rpms
289 4-V "A" code:
225hp @ 4800 rpms; 305lbs-ft torque @ 3200 rpms
289 4-V "K" code:
271hp @ 6000 rpms; 312lbs-ft torque @ 3400 rpms

Rear wheel figures also depend on the transmission, right? I think someone told me once that I was losing about 40% of my hp (302 four barrel, C4) by the time it reached the back. So if I started with 230 hp, I ended up with about 140 hp. With a manual transmission, the loss was about 30%. I think I read that right here at M&M.

The loss figures seem too high. Maybe you could lose 40% with the C6 but I would say around 15-20% with a manual and 20-25% with an auto as a guestimate.
