On my '66, the fan blades are attached to the water pump pulley using a spacer. Which is what I see in other cars. One catalog that I know of shows a fan clutch for 1966 through 1969 (I got one and I am going to install). Did any of the 66's have a fan clutch originally?

Uses less horsepower than a fixed blade fan because it has a maximum amount of revolutions before the clutch releases the fan. I think because of this they were also able to use larger blades. With higher reving motors fixed fans cause some parisitic power loss. I believe they also have temperature controlled cluthes. ------------------ 65 Stang - TFS SH Stage III Heads, Nash 5 speed, Fuel Injection, etc... 2001 - Z06

On highway cruises, they disengage and save the water pump also. If I hadn't overeacted and put in a 4 row, I would have a clutch fan. I have one of those steel fans from Classic Air. The clutch fan is too close (3/8"} to the radiator with the 4 row. I believe they stopped them after 67 because my 68 AC car came with an aluminum blade flex fan.

just remember to get the right fan clutch. you want one that will activate when the temp gets high enough. as for me I HATE FAN CLUTCHES! i htink they are the devils curse to automobiles. i would have replaced the one on me F-250 except that i didnt have the right tools. i will go with and electric fan or two when i get around to the cooling system on project 66 mustang and project 64 falcon.
