The purple spring is considered a middle of the road spring and probably is your best bet, depending on what you want to accomplish. Anything lighter, yellow or white, might start opening to soon. Holley make a quick change top for the secondary diaphragm which makes changing springs easy. Springs are cheap, try various combinations to find which one works best for you.

Jeff,

For your engine go with the yellow spring! Or take the ball/restictor out and go with the stiffer springs, but you shouldn't have to go there. Just run the lightest w/the ball or restrictor in, and you'll see the secondaries open about the right time. Good luck!

ok, thanks guys, I did have the 2nd yellow spring in and it seems to open to fast, Thats why I wanted to go with purple. I raced a 1999 Z28 Camaro at about 50, But I did not downshift so I was in 4th, and he pulled on me (but not the way he should have) Then I looked at his Plate # and it said BLWNZ28. Then I got to the next light and my damn float for the secondarys was open, So I had a steady flow of gas going into my carb, that was not a fun trip home. ) I want to know what would have happen if my car was running right and I had downshifted, Would I have acually pulled on a NON blown z28? It sure seems that way! The camaro also had to have no mufflers at all, he got next to me a reved it and it scared the poop out of me, It was loud and sounded like @*^&.

I like to remove the check ball and use the heavy black spring on 4160 series carbs myself. It seems much more positive that way.
