Sooooooo, you guys think that you know something about 351 Clevelands huh??? Well think about this overnight: Stock two bolt main block, 11 to 1 compression, 73 4v OC heads, Strip Dominator intake with single 850, my favorite Comp roller and a little of this, and a little of that get's you 625 HP @7500 RPM. More tomorrow........... Alex

It's tomorrow, where's the numbers????

I am always ready to see some Cleveland tech. Mmm, strip Dominator, just got done looking at mine lying there on the floor before I came in to work this morning.

Hmm.. what are the specs on that roller? ( I can't find my comp catalog)
how do a strip dominator and a torker compare?
would you have found more power with closed heads?

Aaaaaaargh! The suspense is killing me!!!

Show me the numbers!

Nos351C-
The Strip Dominator is better than the Torker for pure power output. In an old(94?-I've got the issue at home)Super Ford magazine, there was a Cleveland intake shootout. The Torker came in third(480 hp), the Blue Thunder 4145 was second(490 hp) and the Strip Dominator was first(498 hp). The Strip Dominators are out of production and go used for more than a new Torker. Good luck with using either intake.

OK guys, Here goes. It's a 351C 2 bolt block that has been filled partially. It's been precision bored .030 and fitted with off the shelf J&E pistons. It has a 3.75 stroked cast crank with 6.00 length rods. It was all zero balanced. The cam is a Comp roller that is 270-276 @ .050 and .648 .641 lift. Part number 32-645-5. It was installed at 105 CL. The heads are '73 open chambers that have been very mildly intake match ported ONLY! NO BOWL WORK! A superior valve job and premium quality stainless Victory valves. Comp stainless steel rockers are used for longevity. The afore mentioned Holley Strip Dominator intake and 850 DP carb. MSD distributor with a #7 box, AF-22 Motorcraft plugs and Holley wires. A Canton road race pan,(like Steve's) Melling HV oil pump, FRPP HD shaft and Castrol 5w30 oil. Except for the oil pan, it could pass for a stock 351C with an air cleaner on it. This combination makes 619 to 625 HP @ 7500 RPM and idles like a street car. It is going into a Pantera that is vintage raced. So much for all of the super high tech "Star Wars" 351C stuff huh? More "dyno tales" tomorrow. Alex

Great timing. I was just reading an issue of Hot Rod last night that completely ripped on the Cleveland. I was wondering where the writer got his info. Probably from a Chevy guy who has never touched a Cleveland. God I hate the bias!! Here you guys are having real world results and success, and this pin head is spouting the party line. Sure, maybe a bone stock Cleveland doesn't produce as many ponies as some other engines. He never once talked about the potential of the engine that Alex will talk about IF HE HURRIES UP!!!!

That's nice to know. Where would you put your money in a Cleveland? A 377 or 393 stroker kit or a 351 .030 over and a nice roller cam?

Thanks Alex!

Those are certainly great numbers. Plenty of good information, and shows just how easy it is to make power with stock parts, especially those "old outdated" Clevelands. Did those '73 heads have the small intake or the regular 2.19 intake?

To make a "BAD mofo" Cleavland, I would go with the stroker and roller camshaft. The valves used were 2.19 intakes. Alex

Hmmm, there is a 383" Cleveland stroker on the Corral auction block.

Lemme see here, there is a set of 73 heads in the garage, along with a Strip Dominator. Wow, look at all these boxes with all new valvetrain goodies. Nope, no roller cam, just a hydraulic flat tappet. Guess that will have to do, along with no stroker

I know I won't get close to 625 hp, but it will be fun!

What other tips and tricks you got for us Cleveland guys?

Would you say the quench heads be good for an extra 30-40 hp?

My book must be wrong . It shows that grind as a solid, not a roller.
How much better would that grind be in my 13 -1 motor over my Lunati? It is 264in 272 exh @.050, .650 lift on both, 104 int c/l, with 108 sep.

Lol, while we are asking for stuff tell your friend that I will pay for crating and shipping charges to take that engine off his hands Alex . I am still in awe of the results with the 351C, wonder what it would take (other than $$$) to get similar results from a 351W.

I'll go through my invenmtory of 351C roller cams today and post the specs. I have two or three for certain that have dyno time only on them. They are all custom grinds and have no cataloge part number. As for a 351W killer deal that should warrant a new thread don't ya think? Alex
