My 1970 Mach 1

This pony had been ridden hard, and put away wet. I probably should have attended to the mechanicals first,
but I couldn't stand looking at the Mach 1's wrong and broken grille, and the wrong left front fender, which had
been hammered in shape very roughly after an accident. I have to restore the Mach's dignity. I stripped off the
wrong grille, and ordered an NOS front fender from National Parts Depot.

The fender also has had the front inner support pop riveted and sheetmetal screwed on.

The fender apron had been replaced by a previous owner, and instead of spotwelding it in,
it was attached with sheetmetal screws and with what looks like bathroom caulk. I forgot to take
a picture of how they had telephone wire holding the headlight molding on, that was classy.

Overspray blends the fender in with the apron, I suppose I should be grateful for the rust protection.

I rather see no fender, than a hatchet job.

Don't you just love rust-free cars?

Most of the front sheetmetal except for the right fender was trash, so we ripped it out.
Here we are test fitting the new fender aprons and radiator support. These will be welded
on the car correctly. Note the correct '70 Mach 1 Sport wheelcovers I snagged on ebay.
These really make the car look like a correct Mach 1. You can also see I rebuilt the upper
door hinges and replaced the lowers. This really tighten up the doors as the hinges were in real bad shape.

Here's the only rust we found on the whole car, a quarter sized hole next to the left rear taillight.

We welded in new steel, ground it down inside and out {in the trunk area} and even we can't spot where the hole was.
